Here is a little info on how we see this whole thing working. Please let us know if you have any suggestions or ideas for the book club.
1. Choosing Books
The books we read will be chosen by vote. The idea is to read a book over a one month period. Each member can suggest 2-3 books here on this handy little blog, and then we will each vote for the book we prefer. The runner-up book can be chosen as next months read. Try to suggest books that:
- Have not been read by other members
- Are easily available - bonus points if the books is available on Kobo
- If possible, please include a brief description of the book or a link to a book review
2. Meetings
- Meetings will take place about one month after we start the book.
- Meetings will alternate between members' homes, on a volunteer basis.
- If you are not able to host a meeting at your home for any reason please feel free to suggest a public venue where we all can gather. It should be somewhere central, affordable, and fairly quiet.
- A host will provide some drinks or snacks, but everyone should try to bring something to share - The idea is to eat, drink, talk and have some fun!
- We will aim to have the meeting time and place organized by 2 weeks before, to allow everyone to plan accordingly.
3. Discussions
Meetings are a time for us to discuss what we thought of the book, good or bad. Feel free to come prepared with some notes if that is your thing, but there is absolutely no pressure. We will have some standard book club questions on hand to guide the conversations. Don't be afraid to share your opinion or spark a debate, that's part of the fun of it!
4. Reviews
You may have noticed the section titled "books we've read". After each meeting one of us will copy the groups general thoughts on the book onto this page. Making it easy to share our reviews with anyone who might be interested in reading one of our books.
